October Seminar: Contract Labor for Independent Growers
October 22, 2026
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Join us for another exciting and informative IGGPRA in-person seminar on Thursday October22nd from 1-3pm. This panel covers contract labor for independent Paso Robles growers, especially those farming 5–35 acres who are weighing farm labor contractors or H-2A crews. Attorney Dax Deason will cover the legal side: who's responsible when crews come through a contractor, wage and housing rules, and the risks growers need to know before they sign. Linnea Smith of Vineyard Professional Services will talk about how contract labor actually works in the vineyard—staffing, scheduling, cost and quality tradeoffs versus hiring direct, and what small growers should expect. Ana Hurtado-Aldana of the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division will cover federal enforcement: common violations, what an investigation looks like, and how growers can stay compliant. We'll finish with a shared Q&A on whether contract labor or H-2A makes sense for a smaller vineyard.
