We'll have about one ton of Sangiovese (Brunello clone) and half ton of Merlot in early October.  Deep rooted, mostly dry farmed without chemicals.  $.75/lb.  We'll help pick.

Jim Allen, a local commercial wine grape grower under contract with about 6 top wineries in the greater Paso area has sent us the following information about grapes he has for sale:

“There's 32 vines of Charbono. I'm guessing around 450-500 lbs. of Charbono.

Also available are about 100-125 lbs Port grapes. My son and I combined them w/ Zinfandel 2 years ago and made a Port. It took a Silver at State Fair in Sacto. and a Gold at Orange Co. Fair. A few years ago they were combined with some Syrah and it made a real nice table wine.

The Charbono and Port grapes are sprayed and fertilized the same as the commercial portion of our vineyard. I'm asking $1500/ton (75cents/lb.). We get $1700-$2000 /ton for our grapes but I offer these grapes to home winemakers at a price break.

Also, our daughter has 102 head trained Merlot vines in her front yard she uses for landscaping. They are cared for, but not sprayed. There haven't been any problems with them the past 2 years. She said anyone can have them for FREE for the picking!”

Contact information for Jim is as follows:

My wife and I moved to Paso about two years ago. The property we purchased has a small vineyard that is about 15 years old. It includes about 250 vines (85% Zin, 15% Petite Sirah) producing a little over a barrel of wine each year (approx 24 cases) plus a bit to top off during the year.

The person who has been making the wine for years has reached a point where he needs to retire from it. As I am not able to take it on myself, I am wondering if someone might want to have the grapes.

If so, please email me at or call me at 301-273-5252.

A new family moved into the neighborhood on property that has about 1/4 acre of Bordeaux grapes.  He knows nothing about grapes or winemaking.  The grapes are available and he only asks that you provide him with some of the wine.  His name is Michael Matteis. Call him weekends at (650) 280-2714.  Give him my name as a neighbor..
